Tea Thyme: A GCA Flower Show

The Three Harbors Garden Club held a GCA flower show entitled Tea Thyme at St. John’s Church in Cold Spring Harbor on Thursday, October 13, 2022. The theme invited participants to create arrangements reminiscent of tea parties in the garden, teddy bears and tablecloths.

There were many classes in which to compete: fifty six in horticulture, four in photography and six in floral design, which included a class for children aged 12 and younger. There was also an educational exhibit about the important roles herbs and composting play in our lives.

One class within the Floral Design Division asked entrants to design a traditional arrangement evocative of Tea at Downton Abbey and another, entitled The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party required participants to create a hat made entirely of natural and plant materials.

Entries came from all over Zone III, and in some cases all over the country. Prizes were awarded for Best in Show, first, second and third places and Honorable Mention. In addition, participants were awarded GCA and THGC awards.

Following the judging, the show was opened to the public. People came from all over New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to admire the talent on display and competitors also arrived, anxious to view their results.

The day concluded with a well-deserved cocktail party for club members, judges, entrants, and their families. Congratulations to all!
